Made for the night before the test

Hootly started as a school project with a simple question: where do you go when you need to get ready for a test or the final exams? It grew into flashcards, quizzes, shared notes and a place to look after yourself along the way.

What we care about

  • Studying that sticks

Testing yourself beats rereading, so most of Hootly is built around recalling things, not just looking at them.

  • Students helping students

The best explanation often comes from someone who understood it last week. We check shared decks and notes before others see them.

  • Room to breathe

Mood check-ins, habits and a journal help you notice how you're doing. They're tools for reflection, not medical care.

How we got here

  1. 2024

    The idea

It began in the 2024/25 school year as an idea for an exam project, picked from a long list of about 50.

  2. 2025

    The first version

Development started under the name TanulóPont. In November it moved to the Angular and Express setup it still runs on.

  3. 2026

    From exam project to Hootly

After the exam the project was rebuilt from the ground up, in English and Hungarian, with a new name and an owl who never gets tired of your questions.
